Elon Musk is a South African entrepreneur known as the founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, which created the historic commercial spacecraft in 2012.

 Elon Musk is an American entrepreneur and South African businessman who founded X.com in 1999 (now PayPal), SpaceX in 2002, and Tesla Motors in 2003.  He became a young millionaire when he sold his first company, Zip2, to a division of Compaq Computer.

 In 2012, it was reported that he was the first person to launch the SpaceX commercial spacecraft to the International Space Station.  He also bought SolarCity in 2016 to expand his portfolio and strengthen his role as industry leader, serving as an adviser to President Donald Trump.  Most recently, in January 2021, Musk reportedly beat Jeff Bezos as the richest man in the world.

Elon Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa on June 28, 1971.  He was interested in science and when he was 12 years old he sold a software game called Guda, which was the first game he created.  He grew up in South Africa with his brother Kimbal and his sister Tosca.  His parents separated when he was ten years old and he did five other things to support his family.

 Elon Musk traveled to Canada when he was 17 in 1989 to attend Queen's University and avoid military service in South Africa.
 

 
He left Canada in 1992 to study at the University of Pennsylvania to study business and physics, earning a second bachelor's degree in physics after pursuing a doctorate.  He left Penn to pursue a doctorate in energy physics at Stanford University in California, where he graduated in 1995 and became a US citizen in 2002.

 Elon Musk has formed some of the largest companies in the world, including Zip2 Corporation, PayPal, SpaceX and Tesla Motors.
